About Dr. Denton

Prior to her retirement, Dr. Denton was a professor in the Children’s Learning Institute at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, where she held the Meg and Dick Weekley Chair in Childhood Reading and Learning.

While she was at UTHealth she led or collaborated on several large studies funded by the US Department of Education and the National Institutes of Health, including a large multi-site study of interventions and treatments for students with both ADHD and serious reading difficulties.

Dr. Denton was a member of the expert panel assembled by the US Department of Education to develop the What Works Clearinghouse practice guide Foundational Skills to Support Reading for Understanding in Kindergarten through 3rd Grade.

She is the author or co-author of four books and numerous book chapters and journal articles on reading intervention, multi-tiered systems of support, ADHD, and related topics.

Dr. Denton has presented numerous keynote addresses, sessions, and workshops for educators, clinicians, and researchers across the US and in Europe and Asia.

Carolyn lives in Port Townsend, Washington with her husband, Barry, and two dogs, Katie and Cooper.
